Obituary:
William "Bill" Ernest Bryant, 80, a longtime resident of Nashua died on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Southern NH Medical Center in Nashua.
He was born in Nashua on July 23, 1931, the son of Sumner King and Mary (Davis) Bryant.
William grew up in Nashua and attended Nashua public schools, graduating from Nashua High School in 1949 and was the Business manager of his class. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in September 1949 and served for six years on active duty, teaching radar equipment at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. He joined the Air Force Reserve for three years after his active duty service attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his service time, he moved his family to Durham, NH to attend UNH and major in Electrical Engineering, graduating with a BSEE in 1958. He continued his graduate education on a part time basis graduating with a MSEE in 1964. William was a member of both engineering and math honor societies while at UNH. He was a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer in the state of NH.
William worked at Sanders/Lockheed for 30 years specializing in Microwave and System Engineering. He worked on many different IR&D projects and participated on many proposals while with Sanders/Lockheed. He was Program Manager of the Antenna and Microwave phase of a major Air Force program in the later 1980's, retiring in 1989. He was awarded one patent and had written many articles on various Microwave related projects.
William married Marjorie (Burnham) Bryant in May of 1951, celebrating over 60 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed spending time at their summer camp in Wolfeboro, NH on Mirror Lake. They also enjoyed traveling and spending time together. He is predeceased by his parents and a son Kirk. In addition to his wife Marjorie of Nashua, survivors include his children, Sally Howland and her husband Ehrick Howland and Todd Bryant and his wife Anne-Marie Bryant; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Bryant; grandchildren, Caitlin and Jeff Morrow, Travis and Tammy Bryant, Mary Howland, Brooke Bryant, and Kyle Bryant; a great-granddaughter, Natalie Bryant; a brother, Davis K. "Skip" Bryant; and a sister, Mary Jane Roche and her husband Dave Roche.
Fraternally, William was very active in the Masons for almost 50 years. He was a member of Ancient York Lodge, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Nashua, and NH Consistory. He was created an Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, 33 degree, of the Scottish Rite in 1989. In the early 90's, William served the Grand Lodge of NH and was Secretary to the Grand Master in 1993. He was also an active member of Bektash Shrine for over 25 years. He served as the head of three bodies in the Scottish Rite, Thrice Potent Master, Most Wise Master, and Commander-in-Chief of NH Consistory. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Award and the NH Consistory Notable Service Award. He also served on many different boards and committees for the Scottish Rite and as Treasurer of the NH Council of Deliberation. William was very active in the ritualistic section of the Bektash Shrine, the First Section, and served as Assistant Director of that section. He participated in many of the degrees in the Scottish Rite as well as being involved with directing some of the degrees.
William was a member of the Pilgrim Church for over 52 years and served on many boards and committees. He was a member of the investment committee of the church for over 25 years. William was an active member of the MECCA Investment Club of Nashua. An Apple computer user since the mid 1980's, he was a member and served as treasurer of the Southern NH Apple Core (SNAC), an Apple user group. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, woodworking, golf, camping, walking, and the NE professional sport teams.
